Myth Busters - It's going to be AWESOME!
Over the years, I've had some strange items on my shopping lists for 4-H events. Today's list for the Myth Busters Adventure just might be the strangest to date... taco sauce, pop rocks, vinegar, gelatin, navy beans, wool cloth, and soda pop, to name a few. What are we going to do with this stuff?????
Come check it out - tomorrow (Saturday, January 9th)from 9:30 am to 11 am at the East Annex. Be sure to check back early next week for pictures!
If you can't make it, there will be a new "Myth Busters" Project in a Box that you can check out to use with your club! (Taco sauce and pop rocks provided...)

Waseca County Fair - 188 days away!
In just 188 days, our awesome Waseca County 4-Her's will be bringing their non-livestock exhibits in to the Waseca County 4-H Building to have them evaluated and show off their talents to the public! Are YOU ready???
The 2010 Waseca County Fair is July 14-July 18, with general project judging taking place on July 13 from 10 am to 4 pm.
As a reminder, here are the steps you should follow for a SUCCESSFUL 4-H Project -
1. Select project areas that interest you.
2. Make sure you are signed up for these project areas on your enrollment forms by APRIL 30th, 2010 if you want to exhibit the project at the county fair. If you have questions or can’t remember what you signed up for, contact the Extension Office.
3. Once you receive your reflection reports (records), you can begin thinking of what you want to learn in each project you signed up for. Make sure you write your project goals on your records.
4. Come up with a project that will help you reach the goals you set on your records. (For example, if you signed up for Child Development and you set the goal of learning how to keep children safe when you baby-sit, you might come up with a babysitting kit that could include a first aid kit and a home safety checklist.)
5. Use project curriculum available from the Extension Office to help you come up with project ideas and goals.
6. Begin working on your projects.
7. Be sure to keep notes when you work on projects, including when you learned things and what you learned, what didn’t go as planned, when you shared your project with someone else, etc. . . Later on these notes should be transferred on to your reflection records.
8. Attend any project workshops that may be held in the project areas that you signed up for. Watch the newsletters sent out from the Extension Office for more information – it always includes details of upcoming 4-H activities that are being offered to 4-H members.
9. If you want to exhibit your project at the County Fair in July, you will need to register your projects with the Extension Office by JUNE 15th, 2010. The middle of May you will receive a registration form and more specific instructions.
10. Remember that you should be completing projects as a way to reach the goals you have set for yourself – not just making something to bring to the fair.
11. Complete your project records and turn them in to the Extension Office by September 15th, 2010. Be sure to follow the guidelines that you receive with your records.
12. Contact the Extension Office for help if you get confused, stuck, or run out of ideas!
Best of luck to you as LEARN BY DOING!

"Big 4-H Question - #1"
Every so often, I will ask a new “BIG” question when it comes to being part of the 4-H program either presently or in the past. We are looking for responses from 4-H members, parents, volunteers, and past 4-H members.
Your responses will be used in a couple different locations. Answers to the “Big 4-H Question” will be used to promote the 4-H Program to the Waseca County Commissioners and to the local community. Answers will also be placed at the Waseca County Fair on large posters that will be displayed in the 4-H Building.
Each time you submit an answer to the “Big 4-H Question” your name will be entered in a drawing at the 2010 Achievement Celebration for some great prizes.
Please send your responses to the Waseca County Extension Office by email at dobbe007@umn.edu, snail mail at 900 3rd St NE, fax at 507-837-5344, or leave your answer here as a comment to this post.
If you have any questions please call or email Amy at 507-835-0600 or dobbe007@umn.edu.

County Wide Fundraiser
Thank you to the enthusiastic volunteers who came to the Fundraising Committee Meeting tonight. What a great meeting!!!
Plans are now underway for Waseca County 4-H to hold a Garage Sale. We have many details to iron out at this point as far as time, date, location, etc... But 4-H families should start saving their GENTLY USED items they would like to part with to donate for the garage sale.
We will need lots of help with this project - if we all work together and have involvement for everyone, it will be a great event that will benefit the ENTIRE Waseca County 4-H Program. Make plans now to help - the committee would like to work in a Petting Zoo and Pancake Feed with the garage sale, so we will need LOTS of helpers!
THE NEXT COMMITTEE MEETING FOR THE GARAGE SALE FUNDRAISER WILL BE ON FEBRUARY 2ND AT 6 PM AT THE EXTENSION OFFICE (FAIRGROUNDS). HOPE YOU CAN COME!
