Waseca County 4-H Week has begun!

Waseca County 4-H Week is a time for Waseca County 4-H members and volunteers to come together and promote our great program! It's also time for us to have some fun and unite! It has officially started today and the week is sure to be filled with lots of great events and activities. This past week was rather busy in the Waseca County 4-H world.

The Janesville Jacks & Jills had a club meeting on Monday, April 5. Amy visited their meeting and led them in a activity developing teamwork skills. What a fun meeting! Lots of enthusiasm with involved parents - it doesn't get much better than that!

Fundraiser meeting + fantastic committee members = exciting plans for a fun fundraiser!! The committee met on Monday night to talk about advertising and make final plans for the big fundraiser on May 15th. We can't wait! Club schedules for the fundraiser shifts will be out soon!

Tuesday April 6 was the first official "Waseca County 4-H Week" event. The Waldorf Peppy Peppers provided a "thanks for your support" breakfast for the Waseca County Board of Commissioners. Avery, Travis, and Trevor, along with Dale and Glee, had a delicious breakfast planned, for which the commissioners were very appreciative. There were some great conversations and the youth did a great job talking about their experiences in the 4-H program.

Saturday morning, April 10, there was a "Let's Get Growing" Adventure. Youth learned about the many different parts of a plant that we eat. We made "plant people" that will grow grass as hair. Youth also planted some lima bean seeds where they can observe them growing and track their progress.

Saturday afternoon was a "Make & Take Project Workshop." Emily taught participants the art of counted cross stitch. Youth got to pick out a pattern of their choice and we began working on our projects. Can't wait to see them at fair time!!

Waseca County 4-H Week promises to be a fun time - be tuning in for the medallion hunt clues and some more trivia giveaway contests! Thank YOU for being a part of Waseca County 4-H!

To answer, use the "comment" feature - be sure to include your name! First person to answer correctly will get a lovely 4-H prize!

Biffer: The Official Rules

The Waseca County 4-H Ambassadors will be hosting a game of "Biffer" during Waseca County 4-H Week. Biffer is without question or doubt the greatest game in the world. It is filled with non-stop action, and constant high energy!

How the game is played:

  • Besides participants playing the game, there will be three different groups: Stations, Medics, and Biffers.

Stations

  1. There will be between 3 to 6 stations.
  2. The stations go and hide through out the playing area and are given blue markers. They can hide themselves anywhere inside the boundaries of the game.
  3. Each station will be numbered 1-6 and will be hidden accordingly to the level of difficulty (1 being easiest, six hardest).

Biffers...they are what makes the game

  1. Biffers will have a sock that is filled with flour.
  2. With these socks they run after the participants, and when a participant is hit with a sock filled with flour, they are then given a black slash, and are frozen.
  3. The biffers must run them down, they are not allowed to throw the socks to create frozen participants.

Medics...the participants' best friends

  1. Medics will be in proportion to the number of biffers there are.
  2. The medics’ main job is to go to participants that are frozen, putting a red slash through the black slash making them free to run and continue the game.

Object of the Game

  1. To win the game, and be crowned as the Biffer Champion of the world, you must get through all six stations in the allotted time slot (usually play for an hour). The catch is that you have to go to all the stations IN ORDER.
  2. When you come upon what you think is a station, you are only allowed to ask them one yes or no question pertaining to what number they are. (For example, are you station one, are you station two, and so on.)
  3. If that person if not station one then you must continue on their journey until station one is found.
  4. When participants find the correct station, you then must perform whatever task the station asks you to do (example: say the alphabet backwards, put there socks in water, ring them out, and then keep on playing, etc.). The tasks will be safe, but a bit on the crazy side!
  5. As you complete each station, you will have that station number marked on you with blue marker.
  6. There can only be one person at a time that is completing a task at a given station. Anyone that is standing in line waiting is free game to be biffed.
  7. If the participants are hit with a sock, they are instantly frozen, and must yell for a medic to let them free.
